So you want to brew some beer, do you?

At long last, I've decided to post a series on brewing beer. My hope is that others will pick up this hobby for themselves. In any event, the first technical post will follow later tonight. It will detail what equipment you'll need to get started. Post #2 will discuss the ingredients. And so on.

I had already planned to brew at least two beers within the next 30 days. What I might do is postpone those plans for a few weeks while I wade through this Brewing Your First Beer series in the hopes that a few others might become motivated enough to brew along with me. If anyone is interested, we could even plan a brew swap and have an online chat one evening to taste and discuss our beers. Just a suggestion, of course. In any event, I will brew, bottle, taste and report back on the quality. If anyone else is interested, please leave a note in the comments. My email filters are quite robust and tend to over-filter my messages.

Stay tuned: more brewing information to follow.

1 Another try at the Fat Tire clone or the Christmas Ale clone?

2 Nothing so complicated. This is a first beer series. The Brewing Better Beer series will follow sometime down the road.

3 Wouldn't be my first beer, but it wouldn't be far from it either (fifth, actually), so I still have a lot to learn. Would this be an extract recipe?

4 Yep, it will be an extract beer. In fact, I'm leaning towards using some pre-hopped kits, throwing out the enclosed instructions, of course, and doubling up on the extract. Boil for 45 minutes, with no hop additions. The ultimate in KISS beer, unless you go the no boil option, as some cans of extract mention.

5 I recommend that - as you get these posted - you put a special section of links to them on your sidebar.

6 So basicly you want me and Harv to start making our own beer so we stop bugging you for yours?

7 Now Susie, you KNOW that you and Harvey are on my distribution list. But it seems like it would be kind of fun to group-brew and have an online tasting session. Good point, Harvey. I'll add a new category right away.

8 It has been about thirty years since I've brewed a batch of beer; canned extract is as far as I got. It happens that I've been acquiring Mr Beer kits from the thrift stores and intend to resume the hobby this week. I look forward to your recommendations.
