Link of the day

Saw this article via Kim du Toit and just had to share. Excerpt:

ItÂ’s no accident that liberals are called do-gooders. They mean well, but they usually end up making things worse. Their hearts bleed for the disadvantaged, but, by helping them, liberals create unhealthy dependencies, disincentives, and dysfunctions that end up harming the very people and communities they intend to help. ItÂ’s tempting to conclude that liberals are stupid, but I think itÂ’s more complicated than that. TheyÂ’re impatient. They want results now, not later. TheyÂ’re shallow. They view humans as sentient beings, not as rational, autonomous agents. TheyÂ’re impetuous. They donÂ’t think through the implications of their policies.

With all due respect to my liberal friends, these are not the traits of the wise. They are the traits of children. Not only are liberals not entitled to govern; they donÂ’t deserve to govern. They need to grow up, develop a more holistic view of the person, develop a more realistic view of human nature, and cultivate a sense of patience. They need to stop patting themselves on the back for being benevolent, compassionate, caring, and sympathetic. Benevolence is neither necessary nor sufficient for acting rightly. Caring, far from being a synonym for justice, is often an impediment to it. ItÂ’s not for nothing that we say that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Liberals prove it every day.

1 This is very intriguing. I can't believe I've never read this point elsewhere or thought of it myself. I'm going to have to contemplate this.

2 So what exactly would a mass murdering communist who worships the liberal religious myth of rote repetition called physics have to say about doing good? Let's face it, if you were the SLIGHTEST BIT concerned about the welfare of ANYONE else, you would not have majored in Physics. How many fucking bio weapons and concentration camp ovens do physicists have to make before people realize that physics commies MUST ALL BE SHOT.

3 Hmmm... BC's got a point... Unfortunately, I studied physics in the Navy, so I guess I have to go stand in line at the disintegration booth. Damn. And I was having SUCH a good day, too :-/

4 My undergraduate degree was in physics and my graduate degree was in nuclear engineering, which is pretty much applied physics. I think that I get to cut in front of you in line.
