I AM JOE

I left the following as a comment over at Rachel's place:

Some Obama douche (but I repeat myself) was on Fox this afternoon saying that McCain had not vetted Joe the Plumber. Vetted. It was like I had taken the red pill, fallen down the rabbit hole, stepped through the looking glass and fallen into a 1960s era Jefferson Airplane acid-amplified video.

WTF? IÂ’m serious: WTfuckingF?! Do you vet everyone in this entire country who MIGHT have opinions, or ask questions, that make the One look like a fucking jackass?

Vet the plumber? I feel like vetting someone’s head with a nail-studded 2×4.

Oh, and if youÂ’ve checked Ace lately, you know that Team Barry is filing suit against Palin and McCain for trying to prevent fraudulent votes. I donÂ’t know what the next step beyond batshit and bugfuck crazy is, but weÂ’re there now.

Right now, Stalin is crying in his glass coffin because he sees now that he didnÂ’t go as far as he could.

Iowahawk takes a break from his usual uproarious stuff to post something dead serious. Excerpt:

Politicians -- Sarah Palin, Bill Clinton, et al. -- obviously have to put up with some rude, nasty shit, but it's right there in the jobs description. Joe the Plumber is different. He was a guy tossing a football with his kid in the front yard of his $125,000 house when a politician picked him out as a prop for a 30 second newsbite for the cable news cameras. Joe simply had the temerity to speak truth (or, if you prefer, an uninformed opinion) to power, for which the politico-media axis apparently determined that he must be humiliated, harassed, smashed, destroyed. The viciousness and glee with which they set about the task ought to concern anyone who still cares about citizen participation, and freedom of speech, and all that old crap they taught in Civics class before politics turned into Narrative Deathrace 3000, and Web 2.0 turned into Berlin 1932.0.

Godwin's Law! you say? if the jackboot fits, wear it.

And here's an image that everyone should stick on their websites. Everyone, that is, who wants to show solidarity with Joe:

1 Iowahawk, I think we can support Joe with more than just the graphic. We should pay off his taxes. The media is making a big deal out of him owing $1,200 in back taxes. Let's get this off Joe's back! I don't know how to set up a fundraising site, not being very Internet savvy but here is an idea. If 600 of us just give $2, we will pay off his taxes. Moreover, if only 60 of us give $20 we'll pay off his taxes too. Let's get going!

2 Turns out a radio station is doing exactly that. I've dropped in $10. The radio station is KEX 1190. Google for that and Joe the Plumber

3 Charlie, be of cheer. Visited KEX site. Their Joe fund raised $1826 a/o this morning. Leftovers will go to charity.

4 Get over yourself. Save your indignation for a worthier cause. I have a problem with people who seem to feel sorry for themselves for no reason. "Joe" was grabbed by the McCain campaign for political points. He was never "attacked" by the Obama campaign. Now, in rushing to his defense, the McCain campaign CONTINUES TO EXPLOIT THE MAN FOR POLITICAL GAIN. You, my friend, are being played like a fiddle.

5 He was never "attacked" by the Obama campaign. You keep using those words. I not think they mean what you think they mean.

6 Save your indignation ... Ditto, indeed. Who is indignant? Pot and Pyrex argument. Wonder if franglo is related to bobzim and MattM. Same sort of -- NO. I'm professionally an effing logician. I cannot utter the L word in this context. I see this comment box puts live addresses up. 'spose I should expect hatemail to start showing up amongst the spam any second now. The good thing about war is the rules allow you to shoot bullets at the people you don't like. The bad thing is the same rules allow the people you don't like to shoot back.

7 Of course Joe doesn't make $250,000....he has the AUDACITY OF HOPE that someday he might. You know, that reclaiming the american dream thing. "No plumber makes $250,000"? Really? If he employs 5 plumbers making what he makes now ($40,000), he'd BETTER be making $250,000 a year. What's even sadder is that so many people would sell out our freedom just to "get their guy into office". Sucks.

8 Whoever thinks a plumber could not make $250,000 a year has obviously never had to pay one. In my next life, I will marry a plumber!
