Geek alert

yes, I will be watching

Battlestar Galactica has been resurrected on the SciFi Channel. If you didn't have a chance to see the mini-series last year, let me give you a bried synopsis: all of humanity has been wiped out except for a handful of spaceships and the rest are battling to survive. Now you're caught up.

Since I'm old enough to remember the original series, it's still a little bit weird seeing Starbuck as a woman. She's better looking than the original Starbuck, though, as is the newest female Cylon, played by Tricia Helfer.

Hey, it's not a true science fiction series unless there's some serious eye candy. Not in my universe, anyway.

Update: Turns out that Will Collier is a big fan.

1 I remember the original series, and I seem to recall watching it semi-religiously, but I wasn't really a "fan". It always just struck me as a cheap Star Wars ripoff. I don't mind Starbuck being a woman, because they kept the "crazy fly-boy" attitude intact, and the character still seems to work pretty good. Reminds me a little of the Vasquez character in Aliens - not a woman trying to be tough, but a tough woman being herself. And Mr. Olmos plays Adama with the sort of professional gravitas that Jack Nicholson brought to Col. Nathan Jessep in A Few Good Men. I have high hopes for this series.

2 I wasn't complaining about Starbuck being a woman; it jsut struck me as strange seeing as how Starbuck was, you know, a guy. But she is completely ass-crazy, so the character works. Olmos has agitated me in the past, but he's pretty good here. C'mon, Friday night.
